Our 3D Hyacinth is a symbol of spring and renewal to those who celebrate Nowruz or Novruz, the Iranian New Year. The translation is literally "new day", and it usually occurs on or around March 21st and lasts for a period of 13 days. It's observed by first performing a deep cleaning of the home - a spring cleaning of sorts - to prepare for a celebration of a season of new life in which relatives and friends wish each other good luck in the year ahead. How cool is that?! Certainly all of us, Iranian or not, can relate to a holiday that celebrates new beginnings! There's way more good "stuff" than what we can include here; so if you don't already know, take a few moments to google it.
In every home, the haftseen table is decorated with seven items – since seven is considered a lucky number. Each item begins with the letter sin (s) in Persian, and each item is a symbol of spring and renewal,
Besides our color-and-theme-coordinated card stock cutouts that are illustrated in the photograph, we are also including symbols that represent the holiday, some of which are among the 7.
Seeb(apple), representing beauty
Seer(garlic), representing good health
Sabzeh(sprouts), representing rebirth
Sekeh(coins), representing prosperity
a goldfish swimming in a bowl, representing life
painted eggs, representing fertility
book, representing the Quran to some, or poerty by Hafez, one of Iran's most beloved poets, to others.
clock, representing the passage of time
Our purple hyacinth measures approximately 4" x 3 1/2" and is handmade using two layers of card stock with foam mounting. A third layer has been used to accentuate the hyacinth and the bow on the pot.
Our matching sign says Love from the Wheelers, but since you're probably not a Wheeler, you may want to write your own message - and you can do just that, as long as it doesn't exceed 60 characters.
Just like all of our other selections in the Spring collection, this is packaged in a gable box with shredded tissue. It comes with a matching bow, making it very festive. Definitely more like a gift than an ordinary greeting card! Your friends or family may just decide to include it on theirhaftseen table next year - and maybe for years to come!
